Hermann Zapf is still living today, but his fonts will live on forever. Hermann Zapf is married to Gudrun Zapf von Hesse who is a type designer and a calligrapher. Zapf wanted to become an electrical engineer, but the politically oppressive climate of Germany did not allow Zapf to study about engineering.
